Empowering Change: Intern Foundry–Kearney Connects Students to Real-World Impact

The Development Council for Buffalo County is proud to participate in the inaugural launch of the Intern Foundry–Kearney pilot program for the Spring 2026 semester.

Intern Foundry–Kearney is a collaborative initiative between The Foundry and the University of Nebraska–Kearney Honors Program, designed to combat Nebraska’s “brain drain” by connecting high-achieving students with meaningful, work-based learning opportunities in critical community sectors. This program helps build a talent pipeline for future leaders and volunteers by placing students with nonprofits, public sector organizations, and purpose-driven businesses in Kearney.

As part of this effort, the Development Council’s Foundry intern will collaborate with a broad network of community stakeholders to address housing accessibility challenges for essential workers and families in Central Nebraska. The intern will contribute to shaping data-driven strategies that guide future development efforts.

Internship Highlights:

  • Hands-on experience in community development and policy.
  • Direct engagement with a diverse network of professionals and leaders.
  • Real-world impact on housing solutions in the region.

Applications for Intern Foundry–Kearney are now open. More information is available here.
