The Nebraska Department of Economic Development (NDED) has awarded the City of Gibbon a total of $488,000 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds, marking a significant investment in the community’s growth and vitality. The award includes $435,000 for Downtown Revitalization and $53,000 for the development of a new Comprehensive Plan.
The CDBG program, funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and administered by NDED, supports Nebraska’s non-entitlement communities in strengthening local economies, improving infrastructure, and enhancing quality of life.
Downtown Revitalization Projects- Commercial building façade and exterior improvements
- ADA-compliant sidewalk upgrades
- Targeted street improvements within the business district
These enhancements aim to create a more attractive, accessible, and functional downtown, encouraging economic growth and community engagement.
Comprehensive Plan Development
This planning initiative will guide Gibbon’s development for the next 10–20 years, addressing land use, housing, infrastructure, and community priorities. The process will include input from residents, businesses, and local partners to ensure the plan reflects Gibbon’s vision for the future
Community Collaboration
This achievement reflects strong local partnerships, including support from the South Central Economic Development District (SCEDD), engineering firm Olsson, Mayor Leon Stall, and the Gibbon City Council.
Why It Matters
Gibbon is one of only five Nebraska communities to receive Downtown Revitalization funding in 2025, part of more than $14 million awarded statewide. These projects will not only improve aesthetics and accessibility but also position Gibbon as a vibrant, forward-thinking community ready for growth.
