The Development Council for Buffalo County was proud to welcome more than 150 economic development professionals from across Nebraska for the 2026 Nebraska Economic Developers Association (NEDA) Annual Conference, held June 10–12. Hosting this event was a meaningful opportunity to showcase the strength, spirit, and momentum of our community while bringing together leaders dedicated to advancing growth across the state.
Throughout the conference, attendees engaged in thoughtful discussions, shared best practices, and built connections that will continue to support thriving communities across Nebraska. We take great pride in being a place where these important conversations can happen—right here in Buffalo County.
This year’s program explored both the challenges and opportunities shaping economic development today. Sessions covered key topics including workforce development, housing, entrepreneurship, site readiness, legislative updates, community storytelling, and strategies for building strong, resilient local economies. The conference also created space for honest dialogue around complex issues, underscoring the value of collaboration and innovation as communities work toward a shared future.
Participants heard from respected national and regional voices, including keynote speaker Cory Hepola, who spoke to the importance of storytelling and the role communities play in defining their own identities. Additional sessions encouraged creative thinking around workforce solutions, competitiveness, and the power of public-private partnerships.
Featured presentations included “Reality Check: What’s Next, Nebraska?” which examined trends in wages and population growth, and insights from Courtney Dunbar of Burns & McDonnell, a national site selector who challenged attendees to reflect on data, listen to outside perspectives, and identify opportunities to strengthen Nebraska’s position for future growth.
As the state’s leading professional organization for economic developers, NEDA continues to play a vital role in fostering collaboration, sharing knowledge, and equipping leaders with the tools needed to support long-term success. It was an honor to serve as the host community, and we are proud to have played a part in bringing these important conversations—and the people driving them—together.
