Each year, the Development Council honors outstanding businesses, organizations, and individuals through the Excellence in Economic Impact Awards. These recognitions celebrate those who demonstrate leadership, innovation, and a strong commitment to advancing economic growth and enhancing quality of life throughout Buffalo County.

This year, the Development Council selected the City of Ravenna as the 2025-2026 Community Initiative of the Year.

Under the leadership of Mayor Fred Matejka, the City of Ravenna has undertaken a series of transformative initiatives to enhance quality of life, attract visitors, encourage investment, and support long-term community growth.

These accomplishments include developing a community hike and bike trail, constructing new pickleball courts, implementing a Downtown Improvement Grant program that provided façade improvement funding to multiple businesses, completing downtown sidewalk improvements, adopting an updated Comprehensive Plan, developing a Parks and Recreation Master Plan, and expanding housing opportunities through new owner-occupied homes and rental properties.

Collectively, these efforts reflect a comprehensive, forward-looking approach to community development that is helping position Ravenna for long-term success.
